EPA & TECHNICAL TIPS: LORD FUSOR Training

One of the major challenges facing the industry is how to train technicians to meet the dynamic needs of today's changing automobiles. The speed at which the materials and assembly techniques is changing is staggering, and it is a real challenge to keep technicians educated on the latest repair procedures for the vehicles of today and tomorrow. This challenge is complicated by a changing workforce where skilled welders and those with other related skill sets are hard to find. The key to success is developing a sustainable training program for your organization that will ensure your technicians have the latest skills and information to return vehicles to factory condition.

LORD Corporation, maker of Fusor® Automotive Repair Adhesives, was the first adhesive company to offer curriculum to I-CAR's Industry Training Alliance program and to date has trained 12,000+ technicians. Formed by I-CAR in 2000, the Industry Training Alliance brings together technical training providers to optimize the educational efforts of the collision industry. Technicians who complete LORD Corporation’s hands-on Fusor 001 Bonding/Repair Curriculum qualify to earn I-CAR Gold Class credit, while learning valuable skills to improve quality and reduce cycle times in the repair process. The Fusor 001 training was developed so auto body technicians would have consistent training throughout the industry. In response to the current trends seen in the vehicle assembly process, LORD is planning to launch additional Alliance training programs in the near future to address the latest materials, techniques and best practices for vehicle repair as they relate to adhesives, sealers and foams.

"Over the years, LORD Corporation and I-CAR have had a strong industry relationship and we share some of the same goals related to delivering training to the technicians and teaching procedures on OEM Technical Service Bulletins," said Ed Staquet, LORD Senior Technical Support Manager. "With all of the changes to new vehicles regarding high-strength alloys, composites and foams, it makes good business sense to work in conjunction with the I-CAR team."

Jim Perritt, North American Sales Manager, LORD Fusor Automotive Repair Adhesives, credits the strength of the Fusor 001 training to LORD Corporation’s 20 years-plus of service to the industry. According to Perritt, the first sale of a LORD Fusor repair product was to General Motors in the 1980s. Today, many of the same proven adhesive technologies that LORD provides to automotive manufacturers throughout the world are available to the body shop technician.

Developed by LORD Corporation, Fusor products have been a proven solution in the aftermarket for more than a decade. In addition to a wide range of acrylic, epoxy and urethane products for metal and plastic bonding and repair, Fusor offers a line of sealers, foams, guns and other accessories.
